Dietary effects of phytoplankton and zooplankton on the larval survival, duration and growth of the atyid shrimp <i>Atyopsis spinipes</i> (Decapoda: Caridea: Atyidae) under laboratory conditions

We conducted two laboratory experiments to evaluate the dietary effects of phytoplankton and zooplankton on larval survival, duration growth amphidromous atyid shrimp Atyopsis spinipes. In first experiment, commercially preserved or cultured Tetraselmis sp. rotifers were used rear larvae. second feed larvae for 17 days after hatching, which effect supplementing their diet with Artemia nauplii was tested. The different culture vessel volumes (8 mL 40 mL) performance also assessed. fed only did not survive juvenile stage, whereas showed better survival development. most receiving supplementation survived stage. Larvae in larger containers (40 had significantly higher rates than those smaller mL). present study demonstrates methodologies A. spinipes that can promote development into stage high rates.
